Water and flood damage can be disruptive and disastrous to any building and the property within it. Water is very corrosive to many building materials. When water damage occurs, the situation must be addressed quickly to help prevent further damage to pipes, insulation, flooring, and the structural integrity of the building. In addition, water extraction is important to prevent mould growth and highly contagious diseases that come from standing water.

The first step is to eliminate the source of the water. Water extraction can be performed by one or a combination of the following tools: pumps, wet vacs, truck-mounted extractors, carpet extractors or squeegees. Once the standing water is removed, moisture mapping can be performed, and the structural drying process can begin.

Water extraction is the process of removing all standing water and excess moisture from the property, while water mitigation minimizes water damage by drying, cleaning and sanitizing the property.

If drywall gets wet, it is generally recommended to replace it rather than trying to repair it. This is because drywall is made of a material that can absorb water, which can lead to mould growth and structural damage if it is not properly dried and treated.
